Iran hasoffered to arm the Lebanese Military, Beirut's al-Akhbar newspaper reported Wednesday.
In a brief report, the paper said that the Iranian Embassy in Beirut inquired after the Lebanese army's armament requirements. The latter replied in detail, focusing mainly on air force needs.
The move is reportedly a first on Iran's part. The paper did not mention if the sides reached any concrete agreement.
Prior to June's general election in Lebanon, HezbollahChief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said,"If we win the election we will bolster the Lebanese Military."
Nasrallah added at the time that he suggested Beirut ask Tehran for military assistance, stressing he was sure the latter would be "happy to oblige."
Hezbollah didnot overtake the Lebanese parliament, but is expected to become a part of Premier Saad Hariri's government.
